FILK: Evil Book
Mar. 16th, 2013 04:32 amMEDIA: Filk (text)
ORIGINAL SONG: Evil Laugh, by Seanan McGuire. (lyrics here, not available to listen online that I can find)
SUMMARY: Some books are just evil books. An ode to many books, but most particularly, an ode to the author who originally wrote the original song, and everything she ever wrote.
CREATOR'S NOTES: I have been trying to write this filk for more than six months. So it may not be perfect but dammit, it is done, hooray.
LISTEN: This will happen... eventually.
If you want to be specific, you said it was terrific
As you lead me through your shelves
Said the plot is never boring and the dialogue is soaring
Plus the world in which it dwells
And you said, "This book is really great,
You should just take it home
Start reading it tonight, don't wait"
But how could I have known?
You made me find out on my own
This book is an evil book
Oh, god, how I cried
It wasn't even long before
The tears came to my eyes
There's murders and hope spots and such betrayal
And angst spread all throughout this tale
This book is an evil book
Oh god, how I cried
I got home at nine, and then I sat down to finally
See if you'd overhyped
Blew past all the legal pages and timeline of its ages
And description of the type
And before the clock even hit ten
I couldn't put it down
Hooked on every word and plot twist bend
I thought your review was sound --
It wasn't long before I found
This book is an evil book
Oh, god, how I cried
It wasn't even long before
The tears came to my eyes
There's murders and hope spots and such betrayal
And angst spread all throughout this tale
This book is an evil book
Oh god, how I cried
This book is really great, thanks a bunch
You could have warned me that it would hurt like a punch
I'm pretty sure that you know I hadn't heard of it before
Bearing that firmly in mind, you could have told me a whole lot more
But I'm glad I took a look...
...Now what do you mean, "the next book"?
These books will be evil books
OH GOD OH GOD WHY
My heart almost was mended by the way that it ended
The next book tore a fresh hole
I wish you never showed me -- or at least you had told me --
But now I think that I know
Because then I passed the book along
The only thing I'd say
Was that it was worth taking a look
It's a better read this way...
Guess I see why you didn't say
"This book is an evil book
Oh, god, how I cried
It wasn't even long before
The tears came to my eyes
There's murders and hope spots and such betrayal
And angst spread all throughout this tale
This book is an evil book
Oh god, oh god,
Oh god, oh god,
Oh, god, how I cried"
